Transforming Lives with Educational Therapy Of San Diego

 Individualized therapy lessons are designed to meet the distinctive learning needs of each client.  The sessions include an initial assessment and a diverse range of instructional activities that are designed to help the client meet his/her learning goals.  Educational Therapy can help the students capitalize on learning styles and assist students in advocating for themselves.     

 Debra works with students and families to help guide them through difficulties with homework and long term projects.  Debra can teach the students and families how to implement the strategies being taught and apply them directly to class work.  Organization is an integral part of success and Debra guides students and families to develop organizational coping skills to overcome learning obstacles.  Our neurological rehabilitation program helps patients with neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, or ALS, improve their motor, cognitive, and functional abilities.

 Debra provides direct on campus support in your child’s classroom during his or her school day.  Debra works individually with the student to help build skills and strategies for success.  She collaborates with the classroom teacher and school staff to determine the best time in the students’ schedule to work one on one with the Educational Therapist. Debra can see students privately in a separate room or work along side the student in the classroom.  For many busy families, working with the student during the school day not only capitalizes on their classroom learning but also helps eliminate the difficulties with after school sports and schedules.  

 A leaning center allows the Educational Therapist to work with several students at a time guiding them through both independent instruction, and small group instruction.  Students are grouped with similar needs, ages and learning goals.  The students learn to use programs that enable them to self monitor their progress.  This type of environment is often conducive for summer sessions or after school sessions.  Our wheelchair seating and positioning program is designed to improve comfort, functionality, and prevent pressure ulcers in individuals who use wheelchairs. We provide customized evaluations and recommendations for wheelchair seating and accessories.

 Debra helps parents understand their child’s learning process and how to best support their child’s learning.  This includes educating and supporting parents through the I.E.P. process.  The therapist acts as a facilitator of communication and an advocate for the family interfacing with, schools, and other professionals that are involved.       

 Assessment provides formal and informal diagnostic assessment tools and evaluations to help identify learning strengths and weaknesses.  Testing includes a detailed written report describing the child’s processing strengths and weaknesses and a detailed interpretation of test results and consultation on the specific recommendations.  A classroom observation will also be included in the assessment.
